3 Working Methods to Reverse Wrong UPI Payment Transactions
If you have wrongly sent your money to someone through a UPI transaction, you can easily revert it and get your money using any of the methods discussed below.
Reach out to the Recipient
The first thing you need to do after finding out that you have sent the payment to the wrong UPI ID is to contact the Recipient. This is one of the quickest ways to regain your money; try this method as your first solution in the recovery process. Ask the recipient to refund the money and explain that you mistakenly sent the amount. If the recipient refuses to cooperate with you or if you have any language barriers to communicate, move on to the next method to get the money back.
Contact Your Bank or UPI Payment App
Another way to get the money back is to contact the Bank or UPI Payment App. Visit the bank branch or contact its customer support and explain to them that you have made a wrong UPI transaction and want the money to be reversed back to your account. To process your request, you need to provide details, like UPI ID, transaction ID, the transaction amount, the date and time of the transaction, and the valid reason for the refund. Once you have provided all these details, the bank will take the necessary actions to refund your money back.
If you have made the wrong transaction through UPI apps (Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, etc.), or if the payment failed but the amount is debited, you can request a refund and get the money back by contacting Customer Support available on the UPI Payment Apps. In case of the wrong UPI transactions, the app will help you reach the bank and reverse the transaction. If the payment fails but the amount is debited, the UPI App or bank will refund the amount instantly or within 2-7 days.

Tips to Avoid Wrong UPI Payments in the Future
To avoid the wrong UPI transactions in the future, make sure to follow the list below.
- Double-check the UPI details of the receiver you entered. Even a small character change can lead to failed payments or errors, so make sure to check each character and confirm whether the details are correct.
- It is important to monitor your transactions daily to find any unauthorized transactions and file a complaint with NPCI. As most kids and family members are unaware of digital payment, they might click or share a link available on social media. As a result, there is a possibility of fraudulent acts taking place. So, monitoring the daily transactions on the banking app is highly recommended. Also, make sure to set an app lock for the payment apps.
