Most smartphone users rely on separate apps to scan documents and files. After editing and saving them, they used to send the scanned file to contacts via WhatsApp. However, with the newly built-in “Scan Documents” feature on WhatsApp, users can directly scan any files within the app and send them in seconds. Currently, this feature is only available on iPhones. If you are using an iPhone, go through this article and learn how to use the Scan Documents feature on WhatsApp.
How to Scan Documents on WhatsApp
1. On your WhatsApp, open any chat or group to whom you want to send the scanned document.
2. Once you open the chat or group, click on the ‘+’ icon near the text field, where you will have multiple options such as Photos, Camera, Location, Contact, etc.
3. Click on the Document option and you will see a new option named Scan Document.
4. A camera will open up on your WhatsApp, and you need to point your camera at the file that you want to scan.
5. The file will be automatically scanned, captured, cropped, and enhanced by your WhatsApp when the Auto Shutter is On.
6. If you want to manually scan the document, click the Auto option at the top right of the screen. Once you tap the Auto option, it will turn into Manual.
7. When it is in Manual mode, you must manually capture the scanned document by pressing the Capture button.
8. Like this, you can capture multiple pages on the document.
Edit the Scanned File on WhatsApp
9. Finally, you can access the scanned pages by tapping the bottom left corner of the page. Then, you can edit all the scanned images using the crop, filter, and rotate options.
- Crop: This feature allows you to trim unwanted areas and change the aspect ratio.
- Filter: It allows you to adjust the color and photo quality of scanned images. This filter option has multiple effects, which are listed below.
- Color – This effect will enhance the color of the scanned images.
- Grayscale – It will change the color tone of the scanned document to a greyish one.
- Black & White – By applying this filter, your scanned image will look black and white.
- Photo – This effect will keep the original color of the scanned image as it is. This effect will be useful to maintain the original color when u scan a colored image.
- Rotate: This icon will allow you to rotate the scanned images according to your preferences.
- Delete: You can use this icon to remove any particular or a group of scanned images.
10. Tap Done after you have edited all the scanned images and click Save.
11. If you want, you can name the document and tap the Send icon.
12. Now, all the scanned documents will be automatically created as PDFs by WhatsApp, and they will be sent to your desired contact.

No. The new Scan Document feature on WhatsApp is not available for Android phones. Until the feature arrives on your Android phone, you can use other third-party scanning apps like Adobe Scan, Microsoft Lens, CamScanner, etc.
