How to Enable Parental Control on Instagram
If you want to supervise your kid’s Instagram account, you can use the Family Center option from your Instagram account and send an invite link to your teen. Then, you can supervise your kid once they accept your Supervision invitation.
Note: To enable the parental control option on your child’s Instagram account, you should have your child’s mobile phone with you to accept the supervision invitation sent from your account.
1. Open Instagram on your smartphone and ensure you have logged in to your account.
2. Click the Profile icon and hit the Hamburger menu at the top-right corner.
3. Scroll down to the last and tap Family Center.
4. On the Family Center page, read all the instructions and tap Get Started. Remember, you can supervise your children’s Instagram account only if they are below 18 years of age.
5. Search your kid’s Instagram account on the search field and tap Invite. You can also send invites to multiple Instagram accounts to supervise.
6. The Instagram account you want to supervise will receive a supervision invitation. Then, the user of that Instagram account should tap Allow to accept your supervision. Take your kid’s phone and accept the invitation.
7. Once accepted, go to Family Center on your account and tap their Instagram account to supervise it.
What Can Parents See on Instagram Supervision?
When you tap your kid’s Instagram account name, you will see multiple teen safety settings mentioned below.
- Account Privacy: Using this option, you can see whether the Instagram account of your children is public or private. If your child’s account is public, you can change it to a private account from here itself.
- Sensitive Content: With this option, you can control how much sensitive content your child can see from the accounts they don’t follow. Make sure that you have selected the Less option.
- Who Can Send Them Message Requests: You can decide who can send message requests to your children. If you don’t want anyone to send message requests, tap No One. If you want only their followers to send message requests, tap Their Followers. You can select Everyone on Instagram when you don’t have a problem with everyone sending message requests to your kid. Moreover, you will be notified if your kid has made any changes to this setting.
- Who Can Add Them to a Group: You can control who can add your teen to a group. With this option, you can protect your kid from joining any inappropriate Instagram groups.
- You can also see who your child’s Followers are and whom your child is Following. Further, you can also view the accounts they have blocked on Instagram.
- Finally, you can see your child’s daily average screen time on Instagram.
How to Remove Supervision/Parental Control on Instagram

Steps to Remove Instagram Supervision When You Are a Teen
1. Open Instagram on your phone and tap the Profile Icon at the bottom right.
2. Click the More option in the top right corner.
3. Scroll down to the Settings and Activity option and select Teen Safety Settings.
4. You will find your parent or guardian’s Instagram account near the option Parent or Guardian.
5. At the top right corner of the screen, tap Remove.
6. Select Remove Supervision once again to confirm.
Once you have removed the supervision, your parent will be notified.
Steps to Remove Supervision When You Are a Parent
1. Launch Instagram on your phone and tap the Profile icon.
2. Tap the Hamburger icon or More option at the top and select Family Center.
3. Select the account that you want to remove the supervision below Accounts you Supervise.
